Google chat on gmail can be blocked i just succeded. Just block the word chat. All features of gmail will work except for chat. And a sign comes up saying "Your Network administrator has disabled chat in Gmail". I did it by going through the source code :D |

I use a mac, so I can't use google chat anyways but that's great news. I'm not sure if it's just my version of os x (10.2.8) that's incompatible or if there is no version for mac yet.

Don't fight your IT guys, if they don't want you viewing porn or chatting while at work, I suggest you don't. You can get fired for infractions like those and really is it worth it?
I blocked gmail chat using the following: with an openbsd firewall I added the following line
block out quick on $ext_if from any to chatenabled.mail.google.com
Works like a charm until google decides to make a change.

Some admins are blocking dns lookups to gmail chat, if you do an "nslookup chatenabled.mail.google.com" and it returns 127.0.0.1 then your dns results have been modified. Using nslookuup I see that possibly a good ip address for chatenabled.mail.google.com is 66.102.11.189.
Adding "66.102.11.189 chatenabled.mail.google.com" (without the "quotes") to your "hosts" file (mine was at C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) may bypass that depending on how your computer is setup of course ie if your at a corporate workstation your not so likely to get access to your hosts file.

My server is using IExplorer 7.0. but i blocked it in my domain but it was working only in dns but in my members systems if was not blocking.......

You should update your computers's date and time to today's date.

Check your system time settings.If you have changed your system time to a future time, this error is probable to happen.Changing your system time to actual time will solve this issue.

1)OPEN FIREFOX
2)PASTE THIS LINK IN YOUR ADDRESS BAR --https://chatenabled.mail.google.com
3)IN THE DIALOG BOX NEXT APPEARS SELECT ADD EXCEPTION OR "I UNDERSTAND THE RISK"OR ANYTHING THAT FAVOURS INSTALLATION OF THE GIVEN LINK.
4)RESTART FIREFOX AND OPEN GMAIL AND FIND IT SOLVED OR NOT
